NFT traits explained
Quick answer
A trait is one named attribute of an NFT — Background: Blue, Eyes: Laser — stored in the token's metadata. Elevate shows how common each value is as a percentage of the collection.
Traits are the raw material of rarity, and the easiest way to understand what you are looking at when you open a token.
Where traits live
Each token's metadata (the JSON its token URI points to) carries an attributes list of trait type and value pairs. Elevate indexes this metadata after reveal and stores the trait list for every token.
Trait frequencies
For every trait type, Elevate counts how many tokens have each value and shows it as a percentage. A token page lists its traits with those percentages, so you can see at a glance which attributes are driving its rarity rank.
Frozen metadata
Creators can permanently freeze metadata after reveal. Once frozen, traits cannot change, so rarity is stable.
